Books on CD-civil war, smokey mts

Will be traveling to TN this June, stopping in Franklin to see some Civil War sites and then on to the Smokey Mts. Does anyone know of any CDs containing information on the civil war in these areas or any information on the Smokey Mts. Thanks!

Can't help you with CD's but might want to check out www.carter-house.org/TheBattle.htm. In case you want to come back later this fall they are hold a reenactment of the Battle of Franklin on Oct 1-4. www.battleoffranklin.com.
As far as the Smoky's go check out www.nps.gov/grsm/index.htm. Will answer just about anything you want to know or you can check out their bookstore at www.SmokiesStore.org

If you plan to do any hiking, I recommend Day Hikes of the Smokies. It divides the hikes into Easier, Moderate, and Strenuous hikes, and it gives lots of information about each hike.

Before visiting Franklin, I strongly suggest you read Howard Bahr's novel "The Black Flower." The whole story takes place on or near the battlefield. Most of the book actually takes place in the immediate aftermath of the battle and involves the developing relationship of a Confederate soldier and a local woman who takes care of him. It is a quick read too, so you can easily read it by June.
