Booking with travelocity

While I use travelocity to book airfare sometimes, I never use it for car rental, specifically because they ask for a credit card number. I usually use it to look for a good rate on a car, then call the rental company directly or go to their website (you can often get an even better rate that way). Most rental companies don't require a credit card when you book through them.

I've booked rental cars through travelocity both in the US and abroad. Yes, they ask for a credit card number, but don't you have to give that even if you reserve directly through the rental agency? My card was NEVER charged in advance. I've also cancelled a reservation (for Central America, no less) and had no problems with my card being charged.

Joe, I've used Travelocity for both cars and hotels. I don't think I've ever been charged in advance but look out for the hotels that are marked with prepay in advance which I assume means that they will charge your credit card immediately and that there will be a cancellation charge. I also had a hotel once that had a guaranteed booking which meant I would incur the fees whether I showed up or not but it was charged to my credit card when I arrived.
Look at the fine print before you book the room, they have the cancellation policies spelled out. I have cancelled reservations on Travelocity with no penalty.
