It is not technically "stealing". However, it is a violation of the hotel's policy. If the girls do it and get caught, they will NOT go to jail (or be arrested). They will be kicked out of the hotel and likely asked never to return.

Whether it is immoral or not depends on one's own internal morality compass. Everyone's compass is different. Some compasses go whacko with a "little white lie", some are fine as long as what's done is not illegal.

If you're quiet, well-behaved, etc., the hotel will probably never know that you had 3 in the room. They probably won't care even if they find out, if you're quiet, well-behaved, etc.

The question isn't "will I get away with it?", it's "will I feel guilty doing it?" That's how morality works - it's not the fear of getting caught, it's the internal feeling of wrongdoing. And only the individual can figure that out.

karens, I admit I'm too lazy to go pull up the two relevant threads at this point, but I really do remember her saying she had no intention of taking the flirtation to the level of having an affair, just that she was pretty high on getting the flowers and the attention. I therefore interpreted the "go for it" comments as "enjoy yourself," not as "bed him."

I note that Diva still hasn't come back, and her posting history here is thin to begin with. Twice she posted without responding to the answers people gave and otherwise, it seems it was just duplicate queries. I'm guessing she either doesn't know how to pull up her thread once she's posted or really doesn't care to return/respond. Probably gone to other pastures.

So this is just us talking amongst ourselves, which is often the case here, I guess.

Cassandra, or maybe she got caught stealing food from the supermarket or sneaking into a movie without paying, figuring she wouldn't get caught and 'they can afford it anyway' and now she can't post from jail? Well, it's a possibility.

Wow. I hadn't clicked on Diva's name to see other posts. When I did the first one that came up was this:

Does anyone have any clever ideas of how to get free stuff? Room upgrades, free meals, free tickets to shows, free drinks, etc? I read about someone slipping a check-in clerk $60 to upgrade their room to a suite. Does this kind of stuff really work? TIA!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

So there we are. We can't afford the few dollars they charge for a third person, but we might be willing to throw around $60 if it will get us "free stuff". Speaks volumes, doesn't it?

About you and your obsessiveness, yes.

Maybe you should e-mail the hotel in question and ask them about their policy. You're not really dumb enough to do that again, are you?

Oh, I doubt they'd even be thrown out of the hotel (certainly not arrested or jailed, sheez) but I'm sure the higher charges would simply be put onto their room account (why do you think the front desk always has an imprint of a charge card for each room??? -lol)

Diva,

I think we've all learned a lesson here. Stay in school so that you'll be able to afford to pay for your hotel rooms.

Weasel: Enough. Leave Patrick alone.
That was really low about emailing the hotel. I remember that incident & it did not end well. So, why are you going there again? Can we please stop this? You & Patrick disagree on this one. Period. Let it go. Why do you keep coming back to stir the pot?

I BELIEVE ITS A SAFETY ISSUE. if there were a fire or someone was mugged in the hotel and you are not listed it is difficult to be able to hold the hotel accountable for perhaps damage, theft or injury on your stay there. lets put it this way i could not hold the hotel responsible for my lost suitcase because i was not listed i was the third party and i paid hefty fines for what is considered stealing. needless to say my name is on one particular hotel list and cannot use the facility. we did the same thing on a girl weekend. the smoke alarm went off and several rooms were burglerized because we had to be OUTSIDE the building for more then an hour while they did head counts and inspected the rooms. lesson learned take your valuables with you if the smoke alarm goes off.

A relative of mine strips a hotel room of whatever she can upon checking out- every toiletry (used and/or unused), box of Kleenex (opened and/or unopened), same for TP...

I draw the line at taking the toiletries...

Someone else justifies taking a towel...

Personally, I don't think people should take the towel- but I'll bet 5 bucks there's probably someone out there that doesn't think I should take the toiletries.

Bloom, I personally think it's fine to take the toiletries, especially assuming you've opened them. But I'd draw the line at taking the toilet!

LOL.

A friend stayed at a small hotel once and arrived to find the management both chuckling and being unnerved that people booked together in 3 2-room suites had apparently taken a total of six Gideon bibles. They said it happened from time to time, and the Gideons were happy to replace the Bibles, were disinclined to "prosecute" even though they knew who the guests were. A lot of head-shaking though.

misscris - I have never had a hotel ask me for the names of people staying in my room - just the name of reservation and credit card.

in reply to gail they needed the info because i complained about the missing suitcase. the other 2 people i was with came forward and said their stuff was fine nothing missing and when i came forward they said i must be mistaken because only two people booked the room. they asked for who the room was booked to and i originally was not on the list. they took names because of damage and theft to be able to compensate people.

A room is a room and the cost should be the same. It's noboby's business how many people you have in the room. If breakfast was included then maybe it would be wrong but if not I don't see the problem. As for getting what you need, you can always ask for more towels and you can always lose a key and need a new one. If a maid comes to your room most likely she won't speak English thus can't communicate to managment that you are cheeting and most likely wouldn't care anyway. IF you were found out it would be your word against theirs and I would be appalled that any hotel clerk would make the accusation.

We've apparently come full circle. S_T believes the guest's definition of what should be charged is the one that should prevail, nevermind what the hotel's actual policy is.

Let us know when you open your hotel S_T and we'll know what your policy is. If you stay somewhere else, I'd advise paying attention to what they have set by way of fees and charges.

I was just noticing the same thing. Now the client determines what the hotel policies should be. But even funnier -- "It's noboby's business how many people you have in the room."

Umm. Is there a limit to that? Maybe 12? 43?

Meanwhile, I wonder how many of those who insist there should be no extra charge for a third or fourth (or forty-third) person in the room are probably also the first ones to stand there and insist if they are a single traveler that they shouldn't have to pay the same as a couple for the room?

"It's noboby's business how many people you have in the room." That HAS to be one of the stupid-est things written on Fodors recently.

The hotel has every right to set rules/limits and deny anyone and everyone.

The hotel may look the other way - that is also their right. But to say it is not their business - just plain stupid. No other word fits . . . . . .
