Blueberry picking near Acadia

I know there are you-pick farms for blueberries in the vicinity of Acadia NP, but can anyone recommend places to go pick wild blueberries that are really "wild" - i.e., you don't have to pay to pick? Or should we just go to a farm (I know it supports the local economy)?

Also, when do they start to ripen? Will any be ready the first week in August?

I don't know of any U pick blueberry farms on MDI. You can check www.getrealmaine.com for locations. You'll find wild blueberries all over the island. Its technically illegal to pick in the National Park. I would probably just wander around the west side and look for open areas with rocky soil. They should be ripening in early August.

cindyj-

I guess by "vicinity" I meant on the mainland, up the coast.

Thanks for the help!
