BLUE MAN GROUP, BOSTON. Did you enjoy it???

We will be spending three nights in Boston in Oct. We have read posts here mentioning the "Blue Man Group" at the Charles Playhouse. Does any one have any information they can share. Thank you in advance.

Oh boy . . . how to describe Blue Man Group? First of all, let me say that YOU MUST GO!! You will absolutely love it, and you'll never forget it!! It'll be one of the most unusual things that you've ever seen. How to explain? It's 3 guys dressed in black, and their skin is painted blue. They never talk throughout the show. Now hang on, bear with me, it's really not as stupid as I'm describing it. They are fabulous drummers, but rarely use conventional drums. They bang on pipes, and other things. The music is awesome (there is also a band that plays with them), and these guys are incredibly talented! They also do various skits, and, I guess you could call it TRICKS (?). They do odd things with paint, marshmallow, twinkies, and rolls and rolls of paper--you have to see it to believe it. It's a cross between a rock concert, performance art, and a comedy show. For more information, check out their web site at: blueman.com. Can anyone explain this better? JUST GO--YOU'LL LOVE IT, then you'll struggle to explain the experience to everyone!

That sounds like something we have to see! I went to the Blue Man Group website to see about ordering tickets but the Charles Playhouse doesn't have a seating chart available. Having never been to the Charles Playhouse, are all the seats OK (is it small?) or do we need to sit up close to see well? Also we are staying at the Harbor Inn. Can anyone tell me if it is close to a subway stop, and maybe suggest a restaurant in the area that you like. This will be our first trip to NE and we are VERY excited!
Thanks in advance!

Blue Man Group is awesome! The show is very difficult to describe, but I guess that the closest I can come is that it is a satire of avante-garde performance art. It is an intense experience. I don't think I have ever laughed so much and for so long at any other performance - my face hurt by the end of the evening from smiling so much. Go, you'll have a great time.

Toni, your last post appeared while I was typing my last message. We have actually seen Blue Man group twice - the first time we were in the third row, the second time at the back of the theater. Even at the back we felt close enough to really enjoy the show; it's a pretty small theater. I don't know how it is in the balcony. I think that any ticket you can get will be fine, though. Be warned, that if you are in the first few rows, it may get messy; paint, chewed up marshmallows, and other random things fly off the stage, that's why people in the first few rows are provided with plastic parkas to wear. We didn't get anything sprayed on us when we in the third row, it's purely random. There's a fair amount of audience participation, too, so if you end up on an aisle, you have a chance of being part of the show!

PS. - the Boylston Street subway stop on the Green Line is only a couple of blocks away from the Charles Playhouse.

Thank you so much everyone for all the information. I couldn't buy tickets yet as they are only on sale until the end of Sept. Hope they don't decide to close the show before we get a chance to see it!
