Birthday Dinner at???

What is your favorite restaurant for birthday celebration-- we enjoy fine food but dont wish to spend more than $200 or so(including a drink or wine)-- love French food-- already done Cafe des Artistes and Balthazar, most of Restaurant Row, prefer congenial and less formal.

I don't think you can do Gramercy Tavern for $200.

I would actually suggest L'Ecole, the restaurant for the French Culinary Institute. The food there is actually quite good, and there are some nice, romantic tables over by the bar. You can have an excellent meal in a not-stuffy setting (that's really been spiffed up over the past couple of years) and even a mid-priced bottle of wine for less than $200. Drinks too if you want.
