Check out the website for Madera Canyon. There is camping and a lodge there or close by.

We had a great stay at Ramsey Canyon Inn a few years back. It was a February trip and it snowed a little while we were there. Watching the hummingbirds feeding during the snowstorm was amazing! We also loved hiking in Chiricahua Nat'l Monument - beautiful park.

Santa Rita Lodge in Madera Canyon is great for birdwatching most of Dec. - April. The park has scheduled walks, many hiking trails, different habitats (mountain, fields, prairie), but note it is 25 minutes from any city if you are looking for nightlife, groceries, or shopping of any sort. It is about an hour from south Tucson if you want a larger city with amenities. Also Bisbee, AZ is known for birdwatching in March.

I just want to recommend the great B&B we stayed in while birding a couple of years ago -- Mi Gatita in Sahuarita, about 30 minutes south of Tucson. The innkeepers, Jean and Bentley, are very hospitable and knowledgeable and the breakfasts are wonderful. This was my first experience with vegetarian meals and I couldn't believe how good they can be!
