Big Sur River Inn

My husband and I will be spending part of our vacation next month hiking in Big Sur. Has anyone stayed at the Big Sur River Inn and could give us your impression?

Has been mentioned before, search this board. Rooms on river side are nicer. Rooms across the street are very basic motel-style.

Last Sept., we stayed overnight in one of the ones across the street. John's right: basic budget motel; clean, nothing fancy. Can't remember being given a choice, but if so, suspect there was a price difference.

We'd do it again. We were after exactly what we got. Can't remember what we paid, but there's not much in the way of budget lodging in that area.

The rooms are basic, but clean. The setting is what you go for at the River Inn. You can relax in one of the big chairs along the river and read all afternoon or listen to live music in the summer months. The restaurant food is pretty good - nothing fancy, but a fairly good variety.
