Have you checked for a website?
Deetjens Inn is farther south than is Post Ranch Inn and Ventana. It's in a pretty rustic building right on Hwy 1. (I mean it is nearly ON Hwy 1.) It is close to Nepenthe, which is a truly romantic restaurant with a grand view of the ocean.
Depending on budget constraints, I'd think the Post Ranch Inn would make for a better romantic getaway (IMO).

post ranch inn and deetjens (which was called big sur inn the last time i was there) and very different places. post ranch is a spectacular luxury place with a few VERY expensive rooms. Deetjens rooms are funky cabins in the forest. Deetjens has a certain charm and spirit. Another option is the highlands inn in carmel highlands. All roooms have fireplaces and most have great views.

One of our uur favorite family trips was to Deejtens. It is a great little place. We loved the country food in the dining room too. It really is rickety cabins. They are two floors so I don't know about privacy!I think they have remodeled since we were there, but I can't imagine they are too different. The row of cabins stretched along a dry (?) rivene with the back cabins a pretty good distance from the road. They were very reasonable though, if $ is an issue you could ask if they have any cabins that are singles. I would choose Ventana if I had the $$$.

Deetjens is VERY rustic but if that's what you're looking for it's pretty cool. We stayed at the Post Ranch Inn a couple time and went down to Deetjens for dinner - loved it. Very cosy, extremely friendly, great food. All that said, don't think I'd go there for an anniversary - didn't get the impression there was much privacy - some rooms share bathrooms. Post Ranch is VERY expensive (postranchinn.com), and so is Ventana but both are awesome (allthough "worth it" may be a strong term). Stayed at the Highlands in Carmel - very disappointed - expensive and very average - wouldn't recommend.
