Big Sur camping--Best cell phone range?
Hello all,
We are planning a camping trip and wanted advice as to which campsite has the best cell-phone range? Thinking of Julia Pfeiffer campground or Bottcher's Gap (cell range important in case of family emergency with older parents).
Thanks,

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is separate from Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. The former may have a very small number of hike in campsites, while the latter is a huge campground with all sorts of amenities. I would be surprised if either has cell phone coverage. I would recommend staying at Pfeiffer Big Sur, then telling the rangers and your family back home which campsite you are in. You might need to use pay phones to call your family. I haven't stayed at Bottcher's Gap, so I can't comment on that one. Have fun!

We had great cell phone reception at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. There's also a public phone at Big Sur Lodge there. We didn't use our phones at Julia Pfeiffer Burns, so I don't know about that. Bottcher's Gap, miles inland, doesn't even have running water at the campsites, so I'm pretty sure there's no cell service there.
