BI trip report
Just returned from 2 weeks on the BI and wanted to share some info that may help others. This site was a great way for us to learn so I wanted to return the favor.
We stayed at The Hilton Waikoloa and while we heard it was a bit-overdone and touristy, we found it to be beautiful. It is however extremely family oriented! There was an adult only pool but we weren't that affected that we felt the need to sit there. Be prepared to walk alot, thankfully we are somewhat fit, if not we would have been very tired. The hotel was only 40% full due to everything going on.. that worked to our benefit. There is a ton to do at the hotel. We kayaked in the lagoon, snorkeled, swam with the dolphins, and did the sunset cruise. Don't do the luau, food was yukky and it wasn't worth the price. Staff was friendly and the room was perfect. We stayed in the ocean tower and found it to work best for us. Don't stay in the Palace tower.. although in the middle of everything there is no pool there and you will have to walk.
I would probably not stay there again but would definitely do the Four Seasons.
Dinners, just a few great ones to mention.
CanoeHouse, Four Seasons and Huggos in Kona were all great. These were not in the Hilton, did eat at Donatonis(in the Hilton) and liked it!)
We did drive the island and thought it was beautiful. It took one day. We left the hotel at 7am and got baCK at 6pm. Saw the waterfalls, the town of Hilo and Volcano National Park. Go see the black beach.. it's worth it.
Hope this may help someone... If you have any questions please feel free. I hope that I can help someone with planning their vacation.
