Beverly Hills /LA One Niter

Hi All.... My family and I will be in LA for one nite (ariving at 4pm friday feb 18)..Would appreciate any opinions on the best way to see the "highlites" and experience the tinsel town feeling...Would love to include Rodeo Drive, Hollywood Blvd., and dinner at the latest hush hush restaurant to spot a few movie stars (that's my wife and kids, 11 & 13, talking)...Perhaps if anyone knows of anything special happening on the 18th we could try to get tickets or reservations now...Thanks as always, MrJ

I realize you are new here, so let me try to help you. You have posted the same message 6 times today. There is no reason to do that. People who have advice for you will answer your original question. If you want to make additional comments, or if you come back here and can't find your original question, all you have to do is look at the top left hand corner of the page (right here and now). Do you see where it has your screen name "mrj" and then says "welcome"? Click on your screen name and all your posts will come up in the left hand column. You can then click on them individually to see if comments have been made.

Sorry, I'm not sure that I know a good answer to your question. I'd suspect that the Beverly Hills Hotel would be the most exciting place to stay. Spago remains a good place to see "stars" and you are guaranteed a fantastic meal as well. It's not "hush-hush" but those places don't usually welcome the teens. You will all be welcomed at Spago if you are dressed well.

Normally here you can't search for a newer post. They have to enter them first, which may happen in a day, maybe a week.
The best way is simply to come to the US page and scroll down the left side of the page and look at the topis posted. If it's been quite a while since you posted it, then as I said, click on your name where it says "welcome" and it will replace all the posts in recent order with just the posts you have done -- all neatly lined up in the left hand column.

Patrick gave you good advice. The Beverly Hills Hotel and Spago would be a great one time BH experience.

I replied to one of your many postings -- and after I found this one, and Patrick's good advice, I thought I'd say exactly the same thing here, in case you miss it on the other thread:
Message: How are you getting to L.A.? I ask, because you say you arrive at 4 p.m.. And where are you staying the night? And how long are you staying the next day? All this information will give us some idea on how to help you.

Assuming you're arriving at LAX, and assuming you'll be staying in Beverly Hills and have a car, you'll have just a few hours to walk down Rodeo Drive before all the shops close. Hollywood Blvd. shops stay open much later, so keep that in mind. If you have just one night, there's not a whole lot you can pack in.

My suggestion would be, after you get to your hotel, drop your stuff and head straight for Rodeo Drive, and just drive down the street. That will tell you whether you actually want to get out of your car and walk it.

If your kids are into Ashlee Simpson, she's playing at Universal Amphitheatre that night. It's a nice venue and not outrageously big (like Staples, etc.). If you're up to that, then I'd say drive down Rodeo, drive down Hollywood Blvd., and continue on to Highland Ave. Head north on Highland, which turns into either the Hollywood Freeway or Cahuenga, depending on what lane you're in -- it doesn't matter, because both head to Universal. Park in the valet parking up at City Walk, and have dinner at one of the places up there. Your kids will love this place. Then walk over to Universal for the show.

The Pennisula is the best place to stay and eat...just the best. ......And don"t listen that Patrick person...... he does not live in BH nor is he the assigned Fodor Patrol person. Post any way you wish to post...without vulgarity or rudeness.

What a brilliant post, gusto. You have just told a new poster to deliberately not learn how to use the site. Why would anyone object to the calm and clear way I tried to politely help a new poster learn to get the best use of Fodors? You really have a problem! I suppose you would also throw a tantrum if I tried to help a little old lady across the street or offered a lost person directions, because you'd consider I was being a self appointed patrol person. What kind of sick person actually objects to people trying to help others? Wow! I guess you take pride in the fact that helping others or offering advice is something you'd NEVER do.

And for your comment about my not living in Beverly Hills. This may surprise you but most people who DO live in Beverly Hills rarely stay in hotels there. It is often the person from somewhere else who visits who can give the best advice regarding hotels. Don't you agree?

Jim, yes, I think Universal City Walk would be fun, even without the show. It's really something kids like -- totally fake, of course, but with lots of glitzy lights, a huge neon guitar for the Hard Rock Cafe, and tons of kiosks.

Patrick, I agree with you. I said in another post just a few minutes ago, that I live here, so I can't vouch for most of the hotels. I have been in a room at the Peninsula with a friend who was in town, and it's quite incredible, and I've been to the Beverly Hilton, the Beverly Hills hotel (to the Polo Lounge and various events, but peaked into the rooms) and the Beverly Wilshire, but have never stayed the night in any of them.

Careful Surfergirl. If you "peaked" into rooms at the Beverly Hills Hotel without spending the night in any of them, people might get the wrong impression of you, especially from a thread about a one-nighter.
