Best time to visit Asheville, Blue Ridge Parkway, and Williamsburg
My husband and I (both retired) are planning a car trip from Asheville N.C. up the Blue Ridge Parkway to Roanoke then over to Williamsburg. We do not know if it would be better to go in mid to late September (maybe avoid the worst crowds) or in early October. We plan on staying 2 nights in Asheville, 1 night on the Parkway, and 2 to 3 nights in Williamsburg. We do not plan on going to Busch Gardens, but do plan on visiting Jamestown and Yorktown. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (We are driving from Texas, where we live,to Asheville).

I would suggest going in October or at least late Sept. Can still be hot in NC and VA in Sept. If you plan on seeing the Biltmore, do know that it is NOT air-conditioned! I live in VA and think October would be a great time to travel this area!

We always go in November over the the Holiday weekend (Vet's Day). The leaf peepers have departed as have the daytrippers, & you can have the place pretty much to yourself. Light the fire, cook out, have some smores, hit the hot tub & relax.

We've taken this route several times in the last few yrs. We went once in early Oct. and it was oppressively hot in Jamestown. Their heat is a humid type--those poor settlers!
We've also been mid-Oct. and it was just glorious as it had cooled down, and the foilage was beautiful through the Parkway and into the Shenandoah. We've been other times of yr. but I would say that mid-Oct. was "our" favorite time.
You might consider going by Monticello. We found the grounds lovely with a beautiful view of the mountains and we were able to tour the house and see the grounds in about 2 hrs as it is not large at all.
