What are you looking for? It is a big state with major altitude and weather differences. Do you want to ski? Sun? Sightsee? Desert? Mountains? Buy a guide book and do some research.

It is true that there are mountains up in Flagstaff so if you are up for skiing then it is winter. It is beautiful in the summer and a nice break from the Phoenix heat. The best time for Phoenix and Scottsdale is February, March or maybe April. It depends on if you like it warm. I prefer April over February anyday. October is also one of the best times of the year. Averaging around 90 degress and cool nights.

For PHX Feb and Mar are too cool for my tastes. Gets pleasantly warm in April, and even thru early May is very nice. Late May brings the occasional 100 degree day already.
Overall I like October best.

I would think November is best, wonderful weather and most places have their winter grass up and all the flowers in...in October, many places are renovating the lawns and mid-October flowers are just beginning to be planted...I would vote for Nov.1st or later March, around the 20th.

My favorite times of the years:
March- Phoenix-Baseball spring training is happening and strippers from all over the country are in town. Reserve a room early (January?) because the rates are quite high and availability drops.

March-Flagstaff-The week of Spring break at NAU the place looks like a ghost town and rates drop at hotels. This is a good time to use Flagstaff to as a base to go to the Grand Canyon.

June-Colorado River- This is a great time to relax on the river as it is warming up. I recommend Lake Havasu or Parker, Arizona.

October-Grand Canyon-One of the most beautiful time of the year to see the canyon as the leaves are changing and the weather is nice.
