best roller coaster in vegas

If you were to go on one rollercoaster in vegas, which would it be?

Only went on the one at NYNY, I definitely would never go on that one again! VERY jerky, not smooth at all. Not recommended. Watched the one on top of stratosphere from their outdoor observation deck, looks like fun but we were too chicken to go on it!

I disagree, if you are a lover of roller coasters NYNY IS THE ONE!!!
The one on top of Stratosphere is a little kid roller coaster, the only thing it has going for it is the location. It is kind of scary sitting on the edge at about 1300 FT?(I'm not sure about that), but it basically goes around in circles.
Make sure you don't have any earings on the NYNY one, as the side of your head will be hitting the protective gear, so it could make it a little painful, especially stud earings.
It's a hell of a ride!

Goes to show, everyone likes something different! But "the side of your head will be hitting the protective gear" is a good indication of what I mean! After the great smooth, huge, fast roller coasters on my last vacation at Universal Orlando, NYNY rollercoaster was a rough ride.

The only reason I said anything about the protective gear, was the fact that I do have a diamond stud earing in one of my ears, so that's the only side I felt anything, the other side I did not even know if I did hit it, I probably did, but my point is that they are padded, and in normal circumstances it will not bother you. It was the end of the stud that was hitting the side of my skull, but I imagine that it would be true on just about any GREAT coaster.

Rollercoaster fanatic and Vegas local here. I'd like to add my two cents:

"Speed - The Ride" is the best rollercoaster in Las Vegas. It's at the Sahara hotel. Magnetic propulsion system shoots you out of the station where you take an immediate 90-degree left bank. Then you straighten out and go through a loop. After clearing the loop, you hit a second magnetic propulsion system that speeds you up to about 70 miles per hour. You sail right through the Sahara marquee, curve left, and shoot straight up a tower about 150 feet (just guessing at the height). Gravity makes you come to a stop while you are clinging vertically to the tower. Then, you go back down the tower and return to the station, completing the same track you just covered, only backwards!

The whole ride takes about 35-45 seconds. It's a real rush (and smooth as silk)! To top it all off, you get to go twice in a row, before you get off the ride!

The rollercoaster at NYNY is rough and the restraints are uncomfortable. Your head is banged constantly against the restraints until you just want to get off the ride. It looks great, but it's not worth the pain. I'll never ride it again.

Skip the rollercoaster on top of the Strat. It's a good view, but it's not too thrilling. On the other hand, the Big Shot on top of the tower is worth every penny if you're a thrill seeker.

The rollercoaster inside Circus Circus is unique in that it's indoors. When you take into account the size limitations they had to work with, it's pretty good, but not very imaginative. Typical lift hill, two loops, a corkscrew, a helix, and you're done. The good thing about this one is that there is never a line and an unlimited ride pass is pretty cheap if you are the type who likes to ride over and over again.

On the Nevada/California border at Buffalo Bill's, they have a roller coaster with a 200-foot drop. For a very short time it was the tallest in the world. This is a steel coaster with no loops or other features unique to steel. It's just built for heights. It's got a couple of very good drops but it's rough, like the one at NYNY. I'd be willing to bet the the coasters at NYNY and Buffalo Bills were made be the same folks.

Have fun!

I've been on both the NYNY and Strat coasters. The Strat was boring, aside from the fact that it's almost 1000 ft off the ground. It's rather slow and uninteresting.
The NYNY coaster is more standard issue, but is wooden, so you get plenty of jiggling and jarring. Interesting because of its location. Otherwise nothing unusual about it.

I second "Speed" at the Sahara. Looked very boring but I rode it and thought it was one of the best ever! NYNY is OK as well but def try the Sahara.

I think $12.00 to ride the coaster at NY NY one time is a rip off!
