Cathy: A new restaurant in Kapaa, "Cafe Coco", is absolutely charming, by the side of a sugarcane field, mostly outdoors - seating on a big gravel courtyard shielded by big fruit trees, umbrellas, gazebos over an eclectic mix of tables and chairs. The whole scene is lit by tiny white lights strung everywhere. The food is a blend of seafood - vegetarian - exotic; fresh everything made right there! The indoor seating areas are blacklit with original art glowing on the walls. Some nights they have live jazz outside. The food is absolutely wonderful and different - we loved it!
Also Roy's at Poipu Village on the South Shore, and A Pacific Cafe in Lihue - both just fabulous! Have a wonderful time!

Cathy,
If you like great prime rib and lobster try the Bull Shed. It located right on the ocean near Coconut Grove but is rather hidden. All the locals can direct you. They open at 5pm and do not take reservations, so get there early to get your name on the list. We ate there twice because the food was excellent and the prices reasonable. Have a great trip.

Tiare is right. It's "A Pacific Cafe" in Kapaa, not Lihue. And if they have "opah" (moonfish), have it - it's marvelous! And a P.S: to my above post about "Cafe Coco" - you need to take your own wine, and there is a convenient little store right across the street.

My favorites are Roy's and the Beach House. We also had fun at Keoki's Paradise in Poipu, a little less expensive than the above but the food was very good. We ate at the non-Italian restaurant at the Princeville resort (can't remember its name) and it was also excellent. The view is just incredible. We didn't get to the Pacific Cafe on Kauai, but did eat at the one on Maui and it was wonderful.
