It's received very mixed reviews, but we liked Husk. My wife considers the pork chop she had there as the standard to measure all other pork chops by.

There are probably a thousand threads on Charleston and its restaurants. A search would give a pretty good working list to select from and then ask for recent reviews.
Our daughter and friends, all very involved in the high end restaurant business, ate at Husk this summer. I started to tell them the recent poor reviews but decided not to--they got in on a cancellation a week prior. They were quite underwhelmed. I think the hype has gone to chef's head. When I posted this, one comment was that there are too many really good restaurants in Charleston to spend a lot of money on a disappointment.

I've written about over 100 restaurants in and around Charleston for http://diningaroundcharleston.com Dining Around Charleston. There are far to many good restaurants to answer that question without first asking, what type of food are you looking for? That being said, my 2 favorites at the moment are The MacIntosh and The Grocery. Personally I think Husk is overrated and you'll get a better meal and value from either of the 2 restaurants I mentioned. Just my 2 cents worth on the matter.

Right. There are many great restaurants, and best is subjective. What do you like?

We were just there in October and really enjoyed Poogan's Porch (res'v suggested). We also very much enjoyed Hominy Grill, and another favorite was Toast (large variety - b'fast served all day).

Best meal we had in Charleston (and we had MANY good ones) was at Magnolia. The scallop appetizer was absolutely lick the plate amazing.

I have to second LoveMyLab -- our meal at Magnolia a couple weeks ago was the BEST! Read up a storm before you go and plan out your meals - there are too many excellent places to eat (and make sure to make reservations).
