Best place to go on a beach vacation?

We have been looking into St. Simon's Island, Jekkyl Island or Tybee beach, can anyone give us the situation on these places?
We are newly married and want something in between a lively fun place and a laid back kind of atmosphere. Any advice would be appreciated!

Just got back from Tybee and found it very laid back and enjoyable for a middle age couple with two children ( 5 and 6). The beach was nice and clean, the people were friendly; and it was easy to get anywhere you wanted to go. It may not have enough nightlife for a younger couple but for us it was perfect.

All these areas are very laid back with not a whole lot to do. Amelia Island or Jacksonville Beach, which is not much farther would give a younger couple more to do.

Keep going past those place until you get to Destin, Florida. The beaches are far nicer and there are far better places to hangout at night and shop during the day. However, if you are avid golfers there are some excellent courses along the Georgia coast.

From a native Georgian:

All of these are laid back but the water at the beaches in Georgia is murky and there's not a lot to do except play golf. Jekyll is the least crowded of these and is probably the least expensive. Most of the hotels are older and aren't that nice. The historic Jekyll Island Club is charming and romantic and has an interesting history but isn't on the beach (although they have a pavillion on the beach). If you stay on Jekyll, take a sailing trip one afternoon.

St. Simons is more developed and has more to do including more restaurants. I don't know much about the night life.

Tybee has become popular in recent years and has become more developed. There's not much else to do on the island but you can be in downtown Savannah in a few minutes where there is much to see and do and with many restaurants and nightclubs.

I've never been there, but Kiawah Island was rated as one of the 10 best beaches in the US by travelchannel.com -- it's in South Carolina and about 20 miles from Charleston (which I have been to and its beautiful)

Don't put too much stock in those goofy travel channel lists.
I've been to lots of the places they rate and in many, many cases, they're just plain out to lunch.
Often times they're trying to list an array of different types of beaches/hotels, etc, not simply the 10 best (though that's not hwat they say).

Sorry. Kiawah is NOT in the top 10 in the US. No way.
