I honestly thought Charleston was close in size to Boston, I'm not sure why. We do need to come visit Charleston!

BOWSPRIT:

This is a current Travel and Leisure survey which included both Charleston and Savannah, as well as other cities countrywide....may help you a bit in your decision.

suewoo: We're gorgeous so we can live anywhere and will just improve the atmosphere there. (being ironic, don't worry)

Can we, as residents of CT, move to Puerto Rico and buy property there?

I don't know the process; but, I am certain that you can buy a home in Puerto Rico, as have several of my neighbors here in NJ. In addition to being a US territory, Puerto Rico has good medical facilities, and a rich cutlure. PR is also a short hop to Miami if real need arises or "island fever" becomes too intense.

You could also consider the US Virgin Islands. Friends from the Boston area own a home on St John where they live for couple of months each year. They originally planned to live on St John for a full six months every winter; however, they've found island life a bit boring for so long a stay.

From what I've heard, house and food prices are sky high in the USVI.

In PR, would you be considering San Juan? Ponce?

Going back to Charleston properties:

Has anyone any feedback on Cool Blow or Bee Street properties?

I have friends who wintered near San Juan for many years and who just sadly sold their condo due to marked increase in drugs and related crime.

That's a shame. In any event, we won't be buying in Puerto Rico.

I have always wanted to live on Cool Blow Street! However, and I say this as a Social Worker who has worked with the poor and downtrodden for 30+ years, The neighborhood may not be where you want to invest. Some parts of Bee Street are near the hospitals so lots of med students. Some places are nice, some not so. Do you have house numbers?

I was looking at the bldg with the converted lofts. How far from the H.D. are these. (and thanks, suewoo! you're the best).

I've seen that building and wondered what it was.

Bee Street is closer to the HD than Cool Blow Street is. To walk to the HD from Cool Blow is a hike. The biggest drawback to me (and you can see it if you back that Google Earth map out is the proximity to the highway. Some people wouldn't want to live that close to low income housing.I don't want to rain on anybody's parade, so go look and see what you think. Bee Street is MUCH closer.

Thanks. I wondered why most of the building is still for sale. Apparently it is loaded with short sales and very little activity since it's completion in 2007. No parade going here at all, just looking at what strikes my initial interest.

Right? I know! I'm lovin' it as we speak.

Dog and I took a nice walk around the 'hood today to look at the camellias and say hey to everybody. There are some nice places for sale at affordable prices. It's near the beach, 20 minutes tops from the HD, and close to grocery stores, and the hardware store (my favorite).
