As a very frequent vistor to Las Vegas, I can easily recommend the Golden Nugget for the "downtown experience" Good prices, good value.
Incidentally, as a frequent contibutor to this sight it is unfortunate that their are ignorant jackasses with nothing better to do with their time. Hopefully you'll get one or two intelligent responses.

Obviouly Bob needs some intensive therapy. Sorry that you received such a strange response but it is obviously his problem.
I would strongly recommend Bally's. I stayed there last fall for $79 per night. The rooms and bathrooms are huge and well furnished. The casino was great and not as crowded as many of the other hotel/casios. It is conveniently located across the street from Caesars and The Flamingo Hilton, plus you can take a monorail directly to MGM from the Hotel.
It has some great shops, restaurants, and a very nice spa and gym. However, the pool gets a little crowded. I would request the rear tower, its closer to everything in the building.
I've also heard great things about The Rio and Caesars but have never stayed at either.
Have fun (without Bob)!!!

I would like to start out by saying that whoever "Bob" is, I will be praying for him. There are some seriously sick people among us.
ANYWAY - speaking on my favorite travel spot, whenever my Vegas buddies and I go, we hit a different hotel every time. I would highly recommend: The Rio - best buffet, beautiful and spacious suites, best disco and friendly staff. The whole Rio de Janeiro theme throughout the hotel is electrifying. You can't help but to get caught up in the magic. My other choices are Caesars, Monte Carlo or the Mirage - in that order.
Enjoy.
P.S. - I would put my real address so we can correspond directly in case you had any further questions, but I don't want sicky to get my address.

Depends on what you're looking for, but Barbary Coast gets my bid. Book early because they're always over booked - They're across for Ceasars Palace, it's a comfortable room, and really, thats all you need in vegas.
I've seldom used the pool or spa in vegas (it's always too hot and too cold there). Besides, it's always more fun to go to the other hotels and browse the shops for the rediculously priced items you'll buy once you hit it big!
Last time we went we had the most fun downtown, we stayed at the Golden Nugget, and off the strip the Rio gets my vote, but only if you have your own car or dont mind taking taxis and shuttles. The best place for a really decadent stay is Caesars Palace, but only if you spring for a suite. The jacuzzi tub is heaven.
Stay away from Treasure Island - we paid a mint, got a mediocre room, the pool was packed, and room was dirty when we checked in. Not a great place to stay, but do check out the pirate show in front.
Hope you have a great time!

First, I would like to say that the posting by "Lew C Fer" was made by a very demented sicko. Unfortunately we run across these sub humans on the Internet.
My recommendations for best hotel in Las Vegas would be:
1. Rio - Best all around experience.
2. Caesars - Still one of the best.
3. Mirage
4. Flamingo Hilton - Greatest swimming pool in Las Vegas.

I want to second Daphne's choice of Barbary Coast. We've stayed there twice. It is small and easy to get in and out of without having to walk through the casino or long halls on the hotel floors (a big security factor). It's centrally located on the strip. Joni
