Thanks, rizzo0904 . I don't hear that you kayaked either in Homer or Whittier (or Seward, or maybe anywhere ), which was my #1 question. It's true that our kids may want to try fishing (not a charter), and doing that in the Kenai on the way to Homer may be a good bet, from what I've read.

I personally have never fished although family members who live in Alaska fish all the time as did younger cousin when we were all there in 2021 for a family wedding. I believe you need to have a fishing permit but others may be more knowledgeable about what is required.

Our kids wouldn't need permits. I or my wife would.

I would minimize the number of towns you plan to visit. Homer has great kayaking and so beautiful there. the town is actually really cute and has some good food. There are hiking areas as well. Moving from place to place here just eats up your time since everything is so far apart. And there is only one road--two lane mostly and lots of traffic in the summer. Seward is wonderful too and I would do the long tour out into the gulf. Lots of wildlife to see. even in the rain! Hope you have a great trip
