Best month to visit Seattle

We are planning our first visit to the Pacific Northwest in 2000, either in May, June or September.
Hope to hear from someone that lives in that area--which month would be the best weather.
When is the rainy season?
We are in the baby boomer age group.
Any suggestions on weather, as well as sights to see (we enjoy coastal towns, mountains etc.) would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Definitely September! Our summer is more of a July August September thing than June July August. May and June are usually pretty wet. We joke that Fourth of July is the last weekend of winter, but it's based in reality (I've lived here for 12 years and can't remember one where it didn't rain). July 5, it starts getting nice. Of course, there are exceptions, weather being weather, but generally, September is beautiful. However, it's still a very popular time, so plan ahead.

As a nearly 30-yr. resident, I'd say Sept. too. I personally love May - it is soooo green and beautiful but too rainy for most visitors. June is so "iffy". And this was a miserable, so to speak, June this year. July wasn't so terrific, (and Aug. sure didn't get off to a good start, did it, Sheri??)
And if you like coastal towns, and mountains, you've picked Puget Sound as the perfect destination for you.

I concur with the above. You will have glorious days in May and June, and the weather in July and August is pretty consistent, but September is the best. The crowds disappear after Labor day, and the weather stays lovely... catch a Husky game while you're in town if you can...

Also, as a mountain person, you may want to drive through the North Cascades -- it's quite simply the most gorgeous piece of road I've ever been on.

If you are interested in getting outside the city I would suggest heading over to the Olympic penninsula. After an enjoyable half hour ferry ride, a must stop is the small Norweigan town of Poulsbo. The quaint shops downtown are quite nice and no visit would be complete without a stop in Sluy's Poulsbo Bakery.

I would suggest a visit to Hurricane Ridge. You can drive all the way but the last mile or so. It is a beautiful hike to the top. The view is unbelievable. Facing South you see all the majestic peaks of the Olympics. Facing North you can see across the Straits of Juan de Fuca to Canada. Also in the Olympics are the Sol Duc hot springs and the Hoh rain forest.

It is worth it all just for the beauty of the drive.

I almost forgot. On the way back stop at Fat Smitty's at Discovery Bay. The best burgers I've had anywhere. You can't miss it, it's the only building on the side of the road and it has a huge hamburger carved out of a tree trunk in the front.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. It sound like a beautiful area.
I only wish we were going in Sept.1999
instead of next year.
Thanks again.
