I'm going to Oahu with my 85 year old mother, it will be her first time. Since she hasn't been to Hawaii, I thought Oahu might be a good island for a first timer. We'll be staying at the Kahala Mandarian Oriental. I was curious if anyone could reccommend an excellent luau and brunch to go to? I've been to the Royal Hawaiian for brunch and enjoyed it, but was wondering if there were other enjoyable brunch spots. I have not been to any of the luaus for fear of it being too touristy, but it seems to be something my mother would like to do. Thank you in advance for your advice.

Try the Sunday Brunch at Halekulani but be ready to spend $40 per person. It is the best Sunday Brunch in town. Cannot help with Luaus.

I have to agree with francis. The Halekulani is the place to go. It's a bit expensive but totally worth it.

We always try to have Sunday brunch at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider. The tables are set on the veranda next to the huge banyan tree overlooking the ocean. The atmostphere can't be beat. Have never been to a luau so can't help there.

Actually, I thought the Halekulani was over-rated. Maybe I was just expecting SO much from all the hype! I like the Sheraton Waikiki's Hanohano Room, which has a fantabulous view. Book in advance to go there for the Saturday brunch....it's combined with a live radio broadcast of the Perry & Price show, so you get fun entertainment, food, and a great view.

I also loved the Royal Hawaiian's brunch, the service was exceptional.

I thought the Kahala Mandarin was supposed to have a nice brunch??

Love the Mandarin, wonderful setting. But you have to reserve the outside tables.

Sorry, no first hand experience at commercial luaus, only back-yard first-birthday kine.
