Best Lodging, Activities in Glacier & Whitefish

Going to Glacier and Whitefish the first week of August and would love some suggestions on the best lodging and fun activities and hikes in the area.

We went to Glacier last July. If you like the B&B thing, theres a great B&B in Columbia Falls called Bad Rock B&B. Great gourmet breakfast! After a day of hiking they have a great outdoor hot tub to soak in. They'll give you pepper spray to use if you're hiking. They have a web site, just search on the name. If you want to see wildlife without the crowd of the main road though Glacier, take the drive from Apgar to Polebridge and back. The inner road is dirt, but the chance of seeing wildlife is very good. We took this drive in the evening, only passed four other cars, saw lots of wildlife, even a mother bear with three cubs. Don't take this drive if you are in a hurry - the speed limit is 15.

Jim, depends upon your fitness level. Easy would be taking the gondola to the top of Big Mt. and hiking the Danny On Nature Trail down. Lots of easy strolls in Glacier Park, too. But maybe you want some challenges? E me with more info and I'll see if I can help. As for lodging, B&B, cabin, motel? Things do get booked up around here so you're right to plan early.

Hi Jim, Haven't been down to the area for a number of years now. The exchange rate is too high! But it's beautiful in the summertime. There is a great website - www.nps.gov/glac/home.htm and if you do a travel search in "Excite" there is a wealth of info. Do you golf? There are many awesome courses in the Flathead area, Buffalo Hill in Kalispell is a gorgeous old course, Meadow Lake & Whitefish are also great to play. Take the gondola up Big Mountain it's fun and a breathtaking view! Have a good trip. Val

Sorry about that! Each time I tried to send my message it stalled and I thought it wasn't going through so I redid it. Then they all went through. Val
