What is considered the poshest hotel on this Island?

Mike, IMHO it is the Hyatt. It is one of the nicest Hyatt's I have stayed in. Princeville is very nice too but I prefer the Poipu area.

I agree with Bart. Great property, inlcuding pool, restaurants, beach and nearby beach (on plantation) and snorkel spots. We took the drive to the North end of the island and stopped at many places on the way, we have no regrets as to our choice. Also, it may have been a fluke, but the I think the north side of the island (as, I think with others in the chain) have more moisture (more frequent afternoon showers).

I was in Kauai last summer. The Princeville and the Hyatt are both considered the premier hotels on the island. It depends on where you want to stay. Poipu is more in the thick of things. Near Hanalei, where the Princeville is, is the wetter side of the island. It does rain more but--that makes it even more beautiful. Also more quiet. The beaches are postcard perfect and great for snorkeling. And the vista, breathtaking. Where ever you stay go the the Hanalei Bay Resort Hotel near the Princeville for sunset cocktails.. Actually this is also a beautiful hotel but not the poshiest. But the outdoor bar has the most beautiful view, sunsets are perfect. A must see!!!

I agree with choices of Hyatt and Princeville. We stayed in Concierge suite at Hyatt for our honeymoon and were very impressed. I work in the travel industry and it takes alot to impress me. Princeville area very quiet. If you like to golf definitely check out courses at each resort - spectacular!

My husband and I stayed at the Hyatt in August of 1996 while celebrating our honeymoon. I would highly recommend it!!

You didn't say what time of year you plan to go and that could make a difference for Princeville. I prefer the Poipu area because it is the best bet for sunshine, but last time I was in the Princeville area I asked somelocals when the driest time for the north area was and they told me that August & September are safe bets for the Princeville area. Princeville is super elegant - just gorgeous, but quiet and peaceful. There is an area where they will set up a private dinner on the beach for two (probably costs a few bucks!!)Poipu is a little more lively, but if you are really looking for lively, don't go to Kauai.

Honeymooned in June at the Princeville Hotel. Can't wait to go back! The Hyatt is nice, but the view at the Princeville may be unequalled anywhere in the world. Stay in a Prince Junior Suite on the eighth floor, directly below the ninth floor lobby.

I've stayed at both the Princeville in a junior suite and at the Hyatt on the Club Floor. We've returned to the Hyatt a number of times. I find the Regency Club amentities, includ the club room with continental breakfast (including champagne), newspapers, snacks throughout the day, evening pupus, wines, and evening truffles and liqueurs very pleasant. You also get access to the Anara Spa--another pleasant site. The staff in the club room are exceptional. Many times Hyatt has packages (through Hyatt Vacations you can get room or room/car/air that make the price of the room more affordable.)
