Best golf on Maui, money not a problem

My wife and I are leaving in 2 weeks for maui. Staying at Kannapali Beach. Which of the two places are the best bang for the buck, Kapalua Or Kannapali? Scenic value a plus because the wife is riding along, need to keep her happy! Would like to play all day if possible. thanks,Jerry

I would think that your choice should be Kapalua and there are three scenic courses to choose from. I have played the Bay Course and it was wonderful.

As "the wife", I would recommend Kapalua. Kaanapali is flat. It is also close to the road. Kapalua has three courses, Bay, Village, Plantation. All have great scenery. Each has interesting holes, the Plantation is the hardest. We stayed at Kapalua and had a golf villa and unlimited golf. I wonder if you could change at this late date. The villa was gorgeous. Also Kapalua Bay is outstanding for snorkelling as well as the bay just to the north of Kapalua (can't remember the name). We played all three courses twice in a week, one day was 36 holes. But the snorkelling was so good it was really tough to decide what to do. We hardly left the resort. (Been to Maui twice before so the other great sightseeing adventures didn't interest us this time around) Also the Bay Club has an outstanding Macadamia Encrusted Mahi Mahi in Coconut cream Sauce with Mango Chutney. A must! Call for reservations and get a window seat. What a view! We played Wiamea the last time we were there. It's a different perspective. Have you been there before? There is so much to do you probably shouldn't play all the time. Helicopter tour, Haleakala, Seven Pools, Road to Hana, North Shore road drive; Wish I was there now.

Congratulations. My wife and I had our 25th yesterday. We have been to Kapalua six times on the unlimited golf package and you will not be disappointed in Kapalua. Each of the courses are totally different, but have great scenery in common. The Bay course is more of a resort course and has several holes along the ocean. The Village is some what of a hilly mountain type course with fabulous views. The Plantation is their championship course also with great scenery. The Plantation hosts a PGA tournament in January. If possible I would play each of the three, but if not I would rate them Plantation, Bay, & Village. If you sneak away for some golf by yourself the Kaanapali North course is a good test of golf (the seniors play a PGA tournament in October) but not very scenic in my mind.

Other restaurants include the Plantation House which is the clubhouse for the Plantation course. Very high end clubhouse. Great food spectacular views. Roy's and Roy's Nicolina's are located in Kahana (about five miles north of Kaanapali) and have great food but no views. For an inexpensive dinner, go to the Hula Grill at the Whaler's Village on Kaanapali Beach. Eat outside at the Barefoot Bar for great sunsets and great people watching.
I am jealous as we did not go to Maui this year. My wife plays alot of golf which makes golfing in Maui even more special. In fact she started playing golf in Maui about 15 years ago so maybe there is hope for you and your wife. Have a special time.
