Best car rental from SF ?

What is the most affordable and best car rental place in SF that will not charge excess fees for out of state usage.

Also, a few years back there were some issues about safety and rental cars since some people with rental cars were being jacked, etc. Is that still the case or are rental cars pretty obvious?

Most rental cars no longer have any identifying tags. The bigger question is, how do you plan to use the rental car? If you will be staying in SF, wait until you want to leave the City as parking is very expensive. What do you mean by "out-of-state"? If you are renting and returning to the same rental location what's the difference? More info would help answer your questions.

I read on some car rental websites that they charge extra for if the car is leaving the state.

Also, some of them have per day mileage caps and total mileage caps.

I am trying to find a good rental car company that 1) have unlimited mileage without any excess mileage fees, and 2) doesn't matter if I stay in or out of state.

I am going to have to do a bit more sleuthing....

From SFO Dollar rental car has hands down the best rates, in my experience.

They also have SF city offices.

J62--thank you! so far the rates look the best....what makes it more expensive for me is that i do usually pay for extra insurance coverage since my insurance will only cover the rental car for certain instances.
