I agree with the above poster, but of all of their locations, the one on Third Ave (b/w 34th St and 35th St) is SUPERIOR to the rest.

IMHO, Jackson Hole is highly overrated. I have been to all their locations (except the one out by LaGuardia), and none seems to be very good at all. The burgers are large and expensive, but not much better than anything you could get for $5.99 at your corner deli.

The best without frills is at J.G. Melon's on the east side or Corner Bistro in the West Village.

The one at DB's on W44th near the Algonquin. Be one of the people who check it out before Zagats gets ahold of it.

N.B. It's expensive.

Another vote for Melon's -- yum -- and hoppin' any time of day or night. Great Bloody Mary's, too.

Yes, as a neighbor of J.G. Melon, I agree that its burger is very good, but Jackson Hole's are better, and there are about 30 varieties available (different toppings). The Jackson Hole on Second at 83/84 Streets is my favorite, although the Upper West Side location (85th St??) is also good.

For a VERY expensive ($17) and delicious midtown burger, try the bar at Patroon.

Another vote for Jackson Hole. Madison and 91 Street is my location of choice. Don't order a platter...too much food. The burgers are fresh, cooked to order and delicious.

My personal burger favorite can be found in Queens, at PJ Horgans Pub on Queens Blvd. For the truly adventurous, take the #7 towards Queens, to the 40th St. stop. PJ's is next to the movie theatre, and bills itself as 'the most authentic Irish pub in Queens'.

As for NYC, in the midtown (theatre) area you can get a very good burger at Joe Allen on W. 46th. You might have to ask for it though, it's not listed on the menu. If you like your burgers pre-fab, you'd be hard pressed to do better than the good old Hard Rock Cafe which, believe it or not, is known to have a pretty good burger. Seriously! Don't forget Island Burgers and Shakes on 9th Avenue, a true hole in the wall, but always rated well in Zagats.

Jackson Hole is great if you like 'em big and greasy.

PJ Moran's in midtown. Great burgers. Be sure to get it with cheese and bacon.

My vote:
Old Town Bar on 18th & Broadway. The burgers are SO flavorful & juicy. Plus it's a very interesting old bar...it used to be shown at the intro to the Letterman Show.

Another vote for Corner bistro. Can't beat the burgers here - thick, juicy and $4.95. Along with a $2 beer, terrific!

Hi,
my vote is for Kens Broome st bar in Soho,on the corner of Broome and West Broadway.
Burger is served in pita bread, much easier to eat and the fries are proper british style chips but with skins on.
The bar is very friendly is the oldest bar in soho.
I have tried corner bistro for burgers and i am not impressed,go to kens and see for yourself.
