Best beach house location for family stay

Hi everyone! My mother has decided to rent a large beach house for a week or so this summer for herself and our family (about 12 people total) including kids and teenagers. We are looking at locations anywhere on the coast from Malibu to south as far as La Jolla.

Any recommendations for a location that would also have other activities besides the actual beach and some great restaurants?

Thanks!

I have no idea what your budget is, but its going to be expensive to rent by the beach. I'd check out the web site VRBO.com (vacation rental by owner) for each city you would consider and see what's listed. Other than that, try a real estate agent in each community. Good luck.

First choice would be Laguna Beach, second Del Mar, third Manhattan Beach and 4th maybe Huntington Beach.

@kleroux- Money is not an object for this trip, thus we are searching for the best possible location.

Thanks for the link!

You won't find a better location than this; it is right ON Coronado Beach:

@clarkgriswold- Excellent, thank you.

@lcuy- Great place, but unfortunately doesn't seem to be able to fit all of us in one "cottage."
