Fred,
Try Expedia.com. You may have to go thru LA to get a better rate. We are going to Hawaii in two weeks and the cheapest rate we got was $443 and it is from SF to LA then on to Hawaii. You may also want to check to see if flying to Honolulu is cheaper and getting a flight on Aloha to Kauai.

Try cheaptickets.com. They are a ticket consolidator and will usually have a lower fare than if you book directly with an airline. They mostly work with Hawaiian Air. Can you fly from LAX? Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays usually has flights from LAX for around $400.00. We purchased our tickets through Pleasant on our last two trips to Hawaii. They mostly use American Trans Air out of LAX.

You might also give Hotwire (www.hotwire.com) a try. It's like Priceline in that you won't know flight times or carrier until you commit to purchasing the flight. The truly adventurous/flexible traveler can always try Priceline!

I found a consolidator that had prices close to $400 less than any website I could find, and I've been to them all, including the carrier sites.
Try this for bulk airline prices: http://www.1877femtrip.com/tickets.htm
Good luck in your search.

I had a friend who booked two tickets at www.travelocity.com for $380 per person (depart on friday and return on 2nd sunday) from Chicago. I have not been able to find the same deal, but I guess they're proof that it's out there.
