Beech Mountain or Blowing Rock

We arer planning to get a vacation rental in either Beech Mtn or Blowing Rock, NC..as far as things to do in each town, which would be more fun--more shops, restaurants. I need to decide fairly quickly. Would love some input from people who have been there. Thanks so mcuh!

I would prefer Blowing Rock; cute little town/restaurants. We did visit Beech Mountain last time we were up in the area & it made a fun day trip.

Neither are my favorite, Blowing Rock is very touristy & will be quite crowded on the weekends. I am would be more inclined tostay in Black Mt., Sylva, Chimney Rock/Lake Lure or even Hendersonville. What are you seeking, exactly ?

Beech doesn't have much of a "town"--it's a ski area. Banner Elk is its "town". I think Blowing Rock would be fine, and you can do day trips from there.

Agree with the above. At about 5,500 feet, Beech is supposedly the highest town in the Eastern US, but there isn't much town there. And if you're coming soon or in winter, Beech's altitude often leaves it socked in the clouds or makes the roads a bit tricky.

For what you're describing, BR is a much better option.
