Bedbugs in Oregon
Oregon may be the only state that considers bedbug infesteations to be "confidental" and not subject to disclosure (nor subject to regulations).

Yuck. Itching just reading that.
I like how the writer tied it back to the other exemptions. That’s definitely an issue, no matter what exemption you’re talking about. People assume that laws will protect them but there’s a lot of stuff like that on the books.
as for the bed bugs. I’m not sure disclosed information from exterminators is all that helpful. Review sites are a lot more helpful b/c that potentially shows a pattern on the hotel’s part. Hotels should be required to take it seriously. Many do not, just like they don’t take other safety issues seriously. I’ve had enough experiences that I’m skeptical over anything a hotel is trying to sell.

Oregon MAY be the only state that does not have mandatory reporting of bedbugs to the state but I doubt it. When a maid strips a bed in a hotel room and finds bedbugs, they hopefully report it to the manager/owner for quick action. Punishing an entire hotel/motel/hostel for bedbugs in one room is not very fair. I have seen my DW untuck the foot of a bed to check the seam of a mattress to check for bedbugs before she will sleep in the bed. So far she has not seen any.
I just heard that Oregon now has 112K employees directly employed in the tourism industry. The major kickoff of tourism for Bend is the Pole, Pedal Paddle which is happening today. If any of the hotels/motels in Bend have rooms with bedbugs, we will probably hear about it within the next week.
Our current Governor got the job when John Kitzhaber resigned in the middle of a scandal involving his girlfriend. We don't know if Kate Brown will be reelected in November but it is certain that the next Governor will have the initials KB. Knute Bueller of Bend is running against her.
There are 36 counties in Oregon. DT won in 28 of them and Hillary won 8. The state went to Hillary in 2016.
The safety issue that I find in motels most often in Oregon and other states, is having regular outlets in bathrooms instead of GFCI outlets to meet the electrical code.
