Bed and Breakfast Hawaii?
Can anyone recommend some good bed and breakfast accommodations in Hawaii? Especially Big Island, Maui and Kaui. We're just back from Alaska where we stayed in several B & B's, ate fantastic breakfasts and met very interesting people, and we'd like to repeat the experience in Hawaii. Hope you can help.

Rosemary- On Kauai, the most wonderful B&B is Gloria's, in Poipu. This is the best of the best! The setting is right on the ocean, your room will not be more than 30-40 feet from the ocean, the sound of the surf at night is incredible. However, swimming there is not too comfortable because of the lava rocks. There is a very nice beach just a short distance away. Bob and Gloria are very gracious hosts. They serve a delicious breakfast. They are located in a great location in Poipu. Cannot help with B&B's on the other islands.

We really liked the Holoalua Inn in the Kona coffee plantation area (about 1500' above the Kona coast). We stayed at the Hyacinth Cottage in Volcanoes Village. Much more private (or remote) depending on your perspective. Thought the Kilauea Lodge looked better (but couldn't get in) in the Volcanoes National Park area. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you for all these suggestions, we'll look into them.
John, I'd like the name of the Volcano B&B please if you can get it. As for Alaska, I posted a list of our B&B's just the other day, look up Alaska and the recent thread "Where can I stay in Alaska?" and you'll find them there (the 8th posting or thereabouts) together with Web addresses.

John, Look at www.alaskan.com/winnercreek. At Girdwood-near Alyeska resort. Lovely accomodations with hearty and delicious breakfasts.

Hi, Rosemary - I recently made this same suggestion to someone else who asked about B&Bs on the Big Island, and I'm happy to repeat it because we liked the place so much. It's a coffee and macadamia nut plantation at about the 1100' level, in the mountains about 20 minutes from Kailua-Kona. It's not exactly a B&B - they have two rental suites with kitchens. So it may not meet your requirements in terms of being able to meet new people across the breakfast table. But the farm is so lovely and the hosts are so pleasant; I would go back there right this minute if I could. Their website can be found at www.hawaiicountry.com. Have a great trip.

My husband and I agree that Gloria's B & B in Kauai is wonderful. The Hakina Room on the second floor was great. We stayed there twice we liked it so much. Also in the Big Island we stayed at Houlualoa Inn and liked it very much. The view is great and they have a nice pool and beautiful "airy" rooms.
Have a wonderful time.
