Get a fresh salmon and rub it all over yourself...you'll see plenty of bears!

Sorry...couldn't resist...8^)

To have high probability, I think you would have to drive down to Homer and take a bear flt tour to Katmai np. They have one day trips with Emerald Air or Hallo Bay.

We were warned when hiking to the Russian River Falls (near Cooper Landing) that bears were attracted to the salmon and that we should be on alert. We saw salmon swimming up the falls but no bears. It was a real thrill to observe the salmon jumping and struggling up the falls.

We did see a juvenile black bear on the trail at Exit Glacier; he crossed the path within ten feet of us. We have also seen (at a distance) a mother and cubs on the hillside across from the picnic area at Exit Glacier.

If you are thinking of a "chance" look, you will need to invest many days and inquire locally where the bears have been seen.

I meant a fly-in viewing. Sorry.

That was the way I took your question. Still don't know anyway else to do the bear flt tour from there. There may be a small operator that flys out of one of the other Kenai peninsula towns, but not sure. I know they do from Homer.

I don't know of any fly in operators in Cooper Landing, closest is Soldotna, with plenty of venders out of Homer.
