I am looking for a good restaurant to eat at in or around Battery Park (within walking distance) that is preferably on restaurant.com. It could be American (burgers, sandwhiches, wings, pizza ect) Italian, Seafood/Steak for either lunch or dinner. Price does not matter. Any suggestions? Thanks

Why don't you plug in the zip code for Battery Park City (10280) on restaurant.com and see what they offer? I have never used this site, so I couldn't begin to help you there.

But I can say that places that serve burgers, wings, etc. don't generally show up on restaurant-reservation sites. If you want something that casual, there's TGI Friday's (although a chain, it actually begain in NYC). There are also several restaurants just off the riverside boardwalk between the Museum of Jewish Heritage and the Winter Garden. Some of these even offer views (there's a seafood restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, etc.). None requires reservations, and I'm afraid I can't help you with the names.

There are dozens of restaurants downtown in the Financial District, and all of them would be within reasonable walking distance of Battery Park City except perhaps the restaurants at the South Street Seaport, which aren't really recommendable anyway.

im a big user of Menupages.com. My personal fav in that area for a very nice casual meal is SouthwestNY in the lower level of World Financial center 2 building.It has a great view of the harbor, and if its nice out a very large outdoor dining.

Restaurant.com allows you to by coupons/gift certificates to area restaurants so it's not a reservations site.

Delemonico is probably your best bet for using the coupons from that site.

The original Gigino's in Tribeca is also nice.

To clear up some confusion, Restaurant .com is not a reservations site. It is a discount coupon purchase site.

I actually looked in this exact query two months ago when I stayed at the Marriott Battery Park. Here are my notes. I checked and all of these are still on restaurant.com

The places in lower Manhaatan in close distance to Battery Park that are available through restaurant.com and that serve burgers and varied fare are: Atomic wings (a little further up past City Hall on Broadway), Moran's (103 Washington St.), Stone St. Tavern (towards the financial district, very good burgers, I had one there last month- they serve several different burgers and sliders, lamb sliders are good), and as Auduchamp mentioned, the Beekman (kind of a dive, good for a pint of beer but we walked out without eating).

I liked Stone St. Tavern. Dark in a tavern sort of way, great burgers, has a varied menu, and everything we had there (4 apps, 4 entrees) was good. I hear the brunch is very good w/wide variety there also; a friend of mine loves their brunch.

Places that serve a decent to good steak down there are in another league price wise. The ones on Restaurant.com in lower Manhattan are Nebraska Steakhouse (on Stone St., steaks $40-45, they do have fish and chicken dishes also), and DelMonico ($45 for a steak; they do have a varied menu also). Have not been to either but maybe somwone who has will chime in.

There are no Italian restaurants in lower Manhattan on restaurant.com that I know of.

I always check the yelp.com reviews for NYC, they are very honest and I find them spot on with the good and bad aspects of places reviewed.

One of the best restaurant.com deals out there for lower Manhattan is at Cercle Rouge, IMO. In Tribeca so not that far. Nice bistro, lots of space (unlike the small crowded, claustrophoic bistros that abound in NYC), nice decor esp. at night, twinkling lights like you are in Paris, and very good solid food w/great service at a good price. Love that place. We have used Restaurant.com deals there 5-6 times over the past few years. Very reliable restaurant, never disappoints us.

So where is Megan?

Who knows. Anyone who thinks American cuisine is just burgers, wings, sandwiches and pizza needs a lot more help with food knowledge than just asking for pointers.

She didn't say that is what she thinks American Cuisine is. She said she is looking for place to eat in or around Battery Park.

I guess every meal you eat is gourmet. More power to you. But that is no what she is looking for, so move along, why don't you, instead of acting so superior without giving any helpful answers.

I don't know where Megan is, but I appreciate the info on the restaurants in the Battery Park area-that is near where we will be staying.

Ecco on Chambers Street is an Italian restaurant in an "old NY"- style space. If you stick to the the specials you can have a very good meal here. If you do not order the specials, you can have a good meal here.

Proceed to Stone Street where you'll find many great options and a fantastic atmosphere. (Stone Street is closed to traffic and the street is filled with dining tables.)

You're missing out if you miss Stone Street.

important to know that there are two Stone Streets. The one with all the restaurants intersects with Williams St., nestled between S. Williams St. and Pearl St.

I love Stone St., there's so many great food options - pub food, italian, mexican, french, greek.
