BASIC hotel near Logan Airport?

I have a family member coming into Logan Airport very late at night. We need a place to spend the night and then get on the road in the morning. Suggestions for a clean, comfortable hotel very close to Logan Airport? No need for frills - we should be in and out!

You don't mention which direction you are heading, so I'm going to suggest some of the hotels heading north on 1A in East Boston. You can get them on priceline, so I'd check there. They are on McClennen Highway just 5 minutes from the airport heading toward East Boston/Winthrop/Revere. There are several hotels in Revere that might work, also with nice views of the ocean, also easy to head out in the morning.

Hope this helps.

I will be coming in from Albany, NY and headed back there. I haven't been to Logan before, and just want something close, simple to have a good nights sleep and head back to Albany.

I think your best bet really close to the airport is Embassy Suites at 207 Porter Street, which is less than a two-mile drive.

It will probably cost more than you want to pay, but you won't have to scramble all over town in the middle of the night and you will awake to a good breakfast to see you and your family member off in the morning.

From Albany to Boston is a LONG drive and you will want something on the other side of Boston. I suggest finding a hotel just outside Boston and have your family member take a cab there, and then head out the next day. If you haven't been there AND it's late at night, you can get lost easily. There are hotels in Framingham and towns just West of Boston, where you can get off the Pike easily get some sleep and head home the following day.

Or come into Boston, and stay at say the Harborside Inn which is just the other side of the tunnel, park check into the hotel and take the T to the airport and back if it's before midnight after that you'd have to take a cab. The Harborside, is a basic hotel and RIGHT at
Quincy Market, so there are TONS of restaurants. Also staying there the T (blue line)in front of the hotel goes one stop from there to the Airport.

Hope that helps.

Why not use Priceline and bid for a 4* in the Logan Airport zone? You most likely will get the Hyatt and should be able to get it for

With many Priceline hotels, there is a charge for overnight parking.

For basic, near Logan, free parking, have a look at La Quinta and Holiday Inn, 3-4 miles, in Somerville. Both have extras like refrigerators in the room. And, both have shuttle for Logan, so you can meet at the hotel if you wish. They also have favorable reviews.

Wyndham - Chelsea, MA or Four Points Sheraton - Revere, MA

Either are about $80 - perfectly fine hotels in perfectly ugly locations, but that should not matter to you. When looking for hotels on sites such as Expedia or Travelocity, check Revere, Chelsea or perhaps East Boston.

Do not stay in downtown Boston and take MBTA to hotel - you will have to pay to park car and deal with traffic getting there. It is an easy shot to Logan from Albany - take the MassPike all the way in and there will be signs. Once you get to Logan, it is usual large airport confusing with good signage but multiple decision points. If you mess up, no worry - just keep going and circle back - following signs to terminal, not exit.

Or skip that entire nonsense and have passenger take a cab to hotel and meet there - it should only be a few dollars. I would not count on "airport shuttle" at any hotel late at night.

Some suggestions for picking someone up at Logan. Like most airports, they do not let you hang out at the curb for long waiting for them. There is now a cellphone lot (where you sit in your car for free and passenger calls you when they land). Its location at Logan is well marked but insanely convoluted to get to - probably a half dozen turns or more to get there from entrance to Logan. Just follow the signs. You can only keep your engine on for 10 minutes or the pollution police yell at you. But you can stay longer as long as you are in your vehicle.

I usually tell passenger to meet me on DEPARTURE level (rather than the obvious arrival level) since there is more curb area to pull over and you can sometimes stay there for a little longer before security yells at you. Depending on airline, that usually involves passenger going up one level inside after they arrive.

travelbuff - it is 3 hours or less (not allowing for traffic) Albany-Logan Airport. My husband does Boston-Albany roundtrip as a driving daytrip with a midday meeting several times/year.

In October, I stayed at the Logan Airport Hilton. Took me about a week of bidding on Priceline, but I got a nice room for $79.

It was wonderful to simply walk to my room from the baggage claim area; especially as I had flown in from Tokyo with about 24 hours of travel time, and arrived after 10 PM.

If you are willing to take your chances, Priceline would also work as several posters have mentioned - but, of course, no guarantee you are going to get Airport Hilton - which is the closest and most convenient to Logan

I don't have a good concept of time/distance in the Boston area, but some of these places seem very far from Logan. I do appreciate all the info about getting in and out of Logan, but now I'm thinking that maybe the idea of having my relative take a cab to the hotel might be the most efficient. An unknown airport in the middle of the night could get a bit confusing!

Stay in Revere or Chelsea - less than 4 miles from Logan. Have passenger take a cab there - no need to deal with hassle of Logan pick-up late at night, factoring in flight delays, etc.. Most of these hotels have free parking. Pick a reputable chain hotel and it will be fine - don't get creative with hotel since there are a few places that are sketchy.

Skip Somerville - not convenient on path to/from Albany. In my opinion, to hassle the passenger with cost of getting to Framingham is just not necessary.

If you bid 4* for Logan on Priceline, you will get either the Hilton or the Hyatt. If you don't get it for your first bid, add a 4* in Brookline-Brighton (there aren't any and rebid). Both are excellent hotels for the traveler arriving or departing.

The Embassy Suites is also excellent for your purposes and allows more space if one of you sleeps in, and if you prepay on their website, the cost will be about the same as for the Hilton or Hyatt, since it includes free breakfast.

All of these have vans, and you can call the desk and ask for transportation after your visitor arrives.

In the morning, you have a straight shot from Logan through the Ted Williams Tunnel and out i-90 to Albany.

If you know Boston, all the A1A places are fine, otherwise, why not simplify?

Or, friend could take the Logan Express bus to Framingham, and you could stay in the Red Roof in that is about 1/4 mile away from the station in Framingham. Its convenient and fast.

OP states "very late at night" - last Logan Express bus leaves at 11 PM or midnight - depending on day of week. I would not risk it.

Then make passenger get to hotel in a cab - why drive around an unfamiliar airport in an unfamiliar city in the middle of the night. Only person I would do that for would be one of my (adult) kids.

The Courtyard by Marriott is right on Rt 1a - about 1/2 mile from the airport. Very easy to get on RT 90 from there (through the Ted Williams Tunnel). Just completed a major renovation so should be in great shape.

Hampton Inn is also on Rt1a - just a bit further north - not enough to make a difference.

Either one would be fine. I work on Rt 1a and can vouch for how easy either one is to get to from the airport.

Don't go all the way to Somerville or even as far as the Sheraton Four Points. If you are not familar with the area, it would be too confusing.

Exiting Logan to Route 1A can be confusing - if you want 1A North (to the suburbs) and are not in the correct lane, you will end up on 1A South headed through the tunnel into Boston (and paying for the privilege - $3.50, I think, if they haven't raised the toll). Then you have to figure out how to turn around and go back through the tunnel to the airport again (but at least the tunnel to the airport is free). Even locals who know the airport can get tripped up by it.

Chelsea can be a nightmare to drive around if you are not familiar with it - lots of narrow and one-way streets that can be very confusing (and quite congested at certain times of day). Revere can be somewhat confusing as well, although not nearly as bad as Chelsea.

Add my voice to those who think you should try for either an airport hotel or a hotel nearby on 1A. If the hotel has a shuttle and your family member needs your assistance (or you just want to be at the airport), you probably could ride it in.

Note that traffic on 1A going into Boston (the direction you will be going to get back to Albany) will be very heavy during morning rush hour (probably 7-9), so you might want to make a leisurely morning of it and leave a little later. Also note that I-90 (like 1A) has a tunnel toll westbound but is free eastbound.

Have read all above posts and did some further checking. I have now changed my mind. Entering random dates, just booking from Hilton website you can get Logan Hilton for about $100/night.

You could save perhaps $20-30 staying someplace more confusing and annoying to get to/from. Judging by your name, I am assuming you are female. You are not familiar with area and passengers flight arrives after midnight. I would not want to go wandering around anywhere under this situation. This hotel is on free shuttle loop bus that goes around Logan - so passenger could take that. Safe, very convenient - easy to get to from route to/from Albany.

I would skip Priceline, skip trying to save a few dollars at some more remote location. If it were me, I would just stay at the Hilton - a sure bet without any hassles.
