Baseball Opening Day
Here in Detroit, Tigers opening day is an unofficial holiday. People take the day off of work and head downtown to celebrate the new season. Even when the Tigers are terrible! Just wondering if this happens in other cities?

In Boston, Opening Day is the day on which Red Sox fans have more hope and joy than any other day of the season. Because it only goes downhill from here. So yeah there is an air of celebration associated with Opening Day. Home Opening Day is a big one too. I am so bummed because I'll be flying to Buffalo this afternoon and I have zero chance of seeing even the highlights of the game unless my hotel carries ESPN. WAHHHHHH
Though, this year feels different for obvious reason.

Its hard for people here in Atlanta to get excited for the playoffs much less the beginning of the season! Fans here are jaded so to speak even though we have had one of best teams in baseball the last 10 years. Boy if those fans would only remember when the Braves (like the Tigers!) were really bad. I remember going when the official attendance was LESS than 1000!! Sorry to say but Atlanta doesn't get excited over opening day, but it sounds like Detroit does! Hope this is your magical season like we had in '92.

The Kansas City Royals won their first opening day in five years! They beat the White Sox and we were there. They have some new young pitchers that look really good so we are hopeful for a good year--even a 500 year would keep the fans coming. Yea! Go Royals! And yes, people take the day off here too.
