BART Train

hello,
traveling to san francisco next month. We
are staying right outside the city and I was
wondering how safe the BART train is going to
and from the city. How safe is it at night,
around the hours of 7-10pm? Can you take
a cab from san fran to berkeley? Thanks.

sally,

I have taken BART from Berkeley to the Peninsula before and it is relatively safe. Of course it is always wise to be aware of your surroundings wherever you are.

I stayed in Oakland last year and took the BART into the city by myself for the day. I felt very safe and when returning I called my hotel for a pick up about 4 stops from my station so I wouldn't have to wait in the dark. the people on board were so friendly!

BART is safe but one still need to use care & beware of surroundings. Depending on traffic, a cab ride from SF to Berkeley can get expensive.

If you consider people with cell phones and laptop computers to be dangerous, you best avoid BART.

a cab from SFO to berkeley at night (after 10 or so) is about $60-70, I think, but from downtown it should be less, I'd guess $40. BART is fine, fast, and relatively cheap (although not compared to mass transit in other cities!)
