My teenage daughter and I will be stopping in Bar Harbor for a day on our way to Nova Scotia. Any idas for the best things to do, places not to miss, good casual restaurants while there for the day?
You have to visit Acadia National Park--at least drive the loop road. Some great hiking if you're into that. The lighthouse is a must see especially at dusk. I'm planning to visit Nova Scotia--I'm envious.
Definitely spend your Bar Harbor day in Acadia Natl. Park. It is breathtaking! Stop for homemade ice cream at the Jordan Pond House in the park or Jordan Pond Ice Cream on the main street in Bar Harbor.
If you like to bicycle, rent a couple of mountain bikes and take advantage of the wonderful trails. They were built by Rockefeller for his horse carriages. They have only the slightest incline and they get you out away from traffic.
Like most national parks, most visitors don't move more than 100 feet from the road. So for a more enjoyable experience, take a short hike or walk; the park service can give you a map of the hiking trails.
