Baltimore One Day Suggestions

My DH will be at Johns Hopkins from 8-10 am on 9/5, and our return flight isn't until 7:30 pm. Any suggestions for an interesting place to go and/or to eat around that area for that day? We will have a car, so surrounding areas are an option. Anything special we should see around the harbor? I guess we should also have a 'backup destination' in case of rain--so that's another question. Thanks to all!

Lunch at Inner Harbor area would be good. There are seafood places there or you could take a water taxi to Fells Point. There are some areas to explore around there including the Baltimore Aquarium. Afterward you could drive or take a water taxi to Ft. McHenry if you are into history.

You could take a cab to the Baltimore Museum of Art and have lunch outside at Gertrude's. (The Matisse collection of the Cone sisters is really amazing.)

I like McCormick & Schmick's at the Inner Harbour for seafood. Sit outside if it is nice.

Another vote for the museum: The Cone Collection (in its own wing) is indeed extraordinary!

More to my taste, however, are the dozens of Antioch mosaics installed around the courtyard on the 3rd(?) floor.

As IOC says, that's the Baltimore Museum of Art, right next to the Hopkins campus. There's also the Walters Museum of Art, with collections of classical and medieval art. I mention it wistfully rather than suggest it, because I haven't been there myself (although I plan it for my next trip).

Happy travels!

Do you like baseball? Babe Ruth's home is close to camden Yards where the Orioles play. depending what day you are going, maybe there would be a 1 pm Orioles game. The stadium is one of the nicest I've ever been to.

Fells Point is a nice area to walk around - historic, with waterfront, shops & restaurants - just go south on Broadway from the hospital until it ends at the harbor. Or, if the weather is nice and you are in the mood for a walk, go to Little Italy, park your car there, go to Vaccaro's (Albermarle & High Streets, I think)and get ice cream. Then you go a couple of blocks south to Eastern Avenue and turn right - once you pass President Street (about a block) this will lead you to a series of pedestrian bridges that will hop across piers that have been developed with hotels, restaurants, the National Aquarium, and eventually will lead to the Inner Harbor. Not far, but a very nice walk. Also, at the foot of President Street on the harbor is a restaurant called Victor's Cafe that has good seafood/italian, and some of the best outdoor seating in Baltimore.
