Back from Oahu and Kauai and trying to avoid tornadoes.
We had a wonderful time on our 25th anniversary trip. We got back on Saturday and then a tornado ripped through our town on Sunday night. Thankfully we were not hit directly and had no damage to our home.
Some of the highlights of Oahu: We stayed in a beach front room at Outrigger Waikiki on the Beach - very convenient. We circled the island of Oahu, visited Pearl Harbor and hiked Diamond Head. Our favorite restaurants were Duke's and Sam Choy's. We only stayed 3 nights.
We stayed one week in The Cliffs at Princeville (a timeshare exchange) - very nice and convenient. It was great to have a kitchen. Some of our favorite restaurants were seafood buffet at the Princeville Hotel, Beach House, Brick Oven Pizza and of course, shaved ice at JoJo's. We took a helicopter tour with InterIsland (loved it), went on the movie tour (fun), and hit many beaches. We loved the north shore. We shopped at the farmer's market for produce.
Thanks for all the advice. It was a memorable trip and I did not want to leave.

Can't go back for a couple of years unfortunately. We are going to Alaska next year since our son will be stationed there in the Army. Maybe 2005. I do live in West TN. The weather is beautiful here today but we hear more storms are on the way.

I grew up in West Tennessee, in the thriving metropolis of Friendship, ever hear of it?
Have family in Dyersburg, Brighton, Covington, Memphis, Jackson, Lexington, and Henderson. You in any of those towns?
BTW, we were on Kauai for 2 weeks in March and I'm still having withdrawals. I'm saving my sock money to go back soon, but the hubby says we are also going to Alaska next year!!

I live in Dyersburg, although not from here originally so I might know your relatives. You can email me direct if you would like at [email protected]. The board might frown on us talking about relatives instead of travel. I work with a lady from Friendship.

icee, "sock money"? heh heh heh. Maybe we should "Other Topic" a thread called "Odd ways we save money for vacations"?
I have "fish bowl money". Got 4 fish bowls from a bar in Pittsburgh sitting on my dresser. They served Iron City in small fish bowls.
We throw our spare change in it throughout the year and it always takes care of our bar bill + at The Sand Bar on Kauai each year.
We've always wanted to go to Memphis. A NOLA buddy of mine moved there and I'm a big BB King and BBQ fan.

Iceeu2 and Sheila: it was so funny when I stumbled upon this thread because I just moved to Knoxville from Friendship! In fact, my husband and I have had our house up for sale there for a year now with no luck. Unfortunately, there's just not much going on in Friendship, and there is nothing to attract new people in to buy homes. You two don't know anyone looking for a house in Friendship do you? LOL

To Becca: You can email me at my above address also if you would like. There are so many houses on the market right now I am not sure if I could help you.
I save my money in a coffee can. We always use it for gas money for road trips.
We did not do the waterfall part of the tour but now I wish that I had. The view was out of this world and I got some great pictures. My husband was so scared he mostly filmed the back of the seat in front of him while I was shooting 3 rolls of film. We ended up buying the video they had for sale.
