B & Bs in LA and Pasadena?

A friend from Australia is visiting me in March and she's never been to LA (I live in Berkeley). I have spent time in museums and gardens there, but don't know places to stay very well. I'm looking for something up to $150/night in LA that would be reasonably near LACMA and the Getty. We will have a car.

In Pasadena, I'd like to be near the Norton Simon and all those good restaurants that Fodorites write about.

Would appreciate suggestions; B & Bs do appeal to us, or smaller hotels...I figure the larger ones will be too expensive.

Thanks for your help.

nancy1652,

I have found the B n b's in that area to be very expensive... $300 plus. (At least for the amenities I wanted.)

I have gotten the Westin on a wonderful weekend specials...for $125-$150 a night and it has a nice pool and offers shuttle service. The area is within walking distance of movie theatres, restaurants, shops, and is a great location in general.

Good luck!

I know this is over your price but the Fairmont in Santa Monica has 209 rates in March if you can splurge. I echo the Westin in Pasadena. The Farmer's Daughter near the Farmer's Market and Grove might be ok. (About 160 a night). Check prices to park your car at each hotel as that could add a lot to the cost. The Hotel Angeleno is usually around 150 a night - almost on top of the 405 near the Getty. Great view.

You might check the book Charming Inns and Bed and Breakfasts in California by Karen Brown. Her recommendations are excellent. Her books have a wide variety of low, medium and high end B&B's and Inns.

I'd check out the specials on Quikbook. Also, go to biddingfortravel.com and check out the prices for Priceline.

I just thought of something else. I've never stayed there but have read good things about it. The Brentwood Inn: http://thebrentwood.com/index.htm
