My book group is contemplating attending a performance or two at the Ashland Shakespeare Festivel. Any recommendations for a B&B that would hold 12 ladies?

The Winchester Inn is a wonderful place, as is the Peerless Hotel. Those are both within walking distance of everything downtown. Weisengers winery has accomodations on their grounds.

One thing we discovered was that on Tuesday nights, if the Festival has not sold all of their tickets to their 8pm play, they sell them for $10 each starting at 7pm. We decided we could not pass on such a deal. But this would affect our dinner plans. So we picked out a late night place, and went off to the wine bar in our B&B for an appetizer before the play.

Once perk of staying at the Winchester Inn was that Tuesday nights were half-price "open bottle" wine nights, and any time we went into the wine bar and ordered, we would get a complimentary appetizer. I tried a flight of white wines, she tried a pinot noir, and the appetizer was bleu cheese beignets. All the wines were okay, if not amazing, but when the bottle has been open for three days, one expects some of the harsher tastes to come out. The beignets were very small, but any amount of food helped. And when the total for a flight of four 2oz glasses, a full glass, and an appetizer comes to under $8, one really cannot complain.

If you decide on the Peerless, you must try the restaurant there. We had a couple of excellent meals there this summer. New chef and he's great!

Another consideration would be the Ashland Springs Hotel. Very nice and great location. Chateaulin is another nice place in downtown Ashland for a great meal and the fixed price menu includes two glasses of wine, paired with the menu items. Have fun, Ashland is a great place! ***kim***

There are many, many B&B's in Ashland, but most would not be able to handle a party of 12. To pick one that would depends on how much you want to pay. Both Winchester and Peerless Inns are somewhat pricey, though nice. A cheaper alternative would be the Blue Moon, which is easily within walking distance of the main town. My restaurant suggestion would be Lela's in the railroad district.

Also take a look at the Ashland Creek Inn, Underhill. Not a B&B in the usual sense, but very nice, and with enough rooms/suites to accommodate your group, and located in the heart of Ashland. Wish I could say we've stayed there instead of the Plaza across the street.
