Authentic Italian Neighborhoods in NYC

We're interested in touring an authentic
Italian neighborhood in any of the
boroughs, or even in close-in New Jersey.
Any suggestions? We've been to Little
Italy.

Try Arthur Avenue and 187 street in the Bronx. You can make a trip to the famous Bronx Zoo( one of the best zoo's in the world!) and have lunch or dinner in one of the many Itallian resturants in the area. Try Mario's, or Dominicks, or Amici's etc, etc. Great pastry and Bread places!

Used to be that Sullivan St in the West Village and several blocks around there were very Italian...neighborhood markets, bakery, delis, etc. But by now, that area may be completely yuppified. Can anyone verify that?

Fair Question! I know the area real well so I know where to avoid. The only way i would go there is by car. The Zoo and the area around Arthur is very safe. But like any area in "changing" neighborhoods there are questionable areas in and around these areas. If you need specific directions and details on places to eat, email me!
