Attention all Campers
I am asking for some suggestions. My DH and I are looking at camping this summer. We camped a lot before we had our son and would like to continue.
What suggestions do people have for bedding for our 1 year old. A pack n play, or is there something else out there that they make for camping
I am thinking that we may have to buy a bigger tent to make room for the pack n play, etc. (and we have a big tent already).
I am welcoming some suggestions anyone may have regarding this.

When we camped with small children, we just used smaller size sleeping bags for the kids and had them sleep between us on their own pad. When camping we basically all went to bed at the same time. A little later bedtime for kid but definitely time for adults to be sacking out as well.
Our first time with our then 7 month old son was to Ludington State Park. We brought a chair to hook onto the picnic table and used the equivalent of a pack and play in the screen tent. Luckily I was still nursing and didn't have to worry about nighttime bottles.
Think short trip for the first time, maybe just an overnight to a local state park, to see what you really need to have.

A great website for camping info is www.rv.net/forums
Even though most here are RVers, almost all started out tent camping and love to share advice. I think they recently added a forum for tent camping too. It might not get much traffic so feel free to ask on other, more active forums--they have a bunch of them.

When we started tent camping our first born was 17 months old. (Keep in mind this was 28 years ago) I had a small port-a-crib that we took. This not only was a safe place to sleep but doubled as a safe play area outside if needed.

Tina,
This may sound strange but it just occured to me that you might find a nice foam bed originally designed for dogs would do the trick. Raised foam edges would keep rolling out harder and the foam insulates from the cold ground.
