Atlantic City
I am planning a trip to Atlantic CIty in mid April for a seminar. I am traveling from Japan half way around the world. During my visit, I would like to visit some tourist attraction there other than the casinos. Any rommendation. Is it far to visit Statue of Liberty?
Thanks..

You don't have to go all the way to New York Cityn to see the statue -- you can get a boat to Liberty Island (where the statue is) from Liberty State Park, in Jersey City, NJ. It is about a 2 hour drive from Atlantic City to Liberty State Park.
Philadelphia is only about an hour away. You could see some historical sites like the Liberty Bell, and tour some museums.
The smaller towns south of Atlantic City on the Jersey shore are pretty, with nice beaches and some beautiful natural scenery. Ocean City's boardwalk is great, and there are nature preserves (birds and marsh animals) in the area.

There are "Jersey Shore" attractions within 20-30 minutes of Atlantic City like Lucy the Elephant in Margate, but I expect this is not what a visitor from Japan has in mind.
There are transportation options (bus, limo, rental car) so you could get to either New York City or Philadelphia. Philadelphia is about 45 minutes to an hour drive from Atlantic City. I believe New York may be closer to a 2 hour drive, but don't quote me on that. There are many threads on Fodors about things to do and see in both cities, and a loyal group of posters who can give excellent advice about specific things you may want to do and see in Philadelphia because it is smaller, closer and may be easier to reach and navigate if you only have a short time to spend away from AC.

There's a new express train from Atlantic City to New York Penn Station. It runs weekends only and costs about $100 round trip. Train time is about 2 1/2 hours. Shuttle service to the train is provided by some hotels. Bus service is also available. It's usually advertised as taking 2 hours, but to make that kind of time requires breaking speed regulations. Realistically, the drive from Atlantic City to Manhattan takes about 3 hours.
