Just got back from an amazing lecture at the High introducing an exhibit that opens tomorrow through Nov 14th - the work of photographer Dorothea Lange

Dorothea Lange (May 26, 1895 – October 11, 1965) was an influential American documentary photographer and photojournalist, best known for her Depression-era work for the Farm Security Administration (FSA). Lange's photographs humanized the tragic consequences of the Great Depression and profoundly influenced the development of documentary photography.

...In 1941, Lange was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for excellence in photography. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, she gave up the prestigious award to record the forced evacuation of Japanese Americans to relocation camps, on assignment for the War Relocation Authority (WRA). She covered the rounding up of Japanese Americans and their internment in relocation camps, highlighting Manzanar, the first of the permanent internment camps. To many observers, her photograph of Japanese-American children pledging allegiance to the flag shortly before they were sent to internment camps is a haunting reminder of this policy of detaining people without charging them with any crime or affording them any appeal.[6]

Thanks for the info. I have always admired Dorothea Lange's work and we'll try to go when we are in Atlanta next week. I have to tell you, it took me awhile to find the location on that website. Have you ever been to the Lumiere Gallery?

No. I'd never heard of it before tonight. The lecture was sponsored by the High Museum and I thought the exhibition would be there.

It should be easy to find, just off Ptree - but the hours are limited until you RSVP another time you'd like to visit.

Hahaha. Just off of Ptree, like there aren't about 1000 Ptrees in Atlanat! I ran the directions off the internet, so we should be able to find it.

Have you ever stopped in at Richard's Variety? The original one is in the Ptree Battle shopping center, although they've opened one near the Trader Joe's on Monroe.

If not, stop in. Probably the best cards in Atlanta and novelty, old timey toys that you haven't seen in years. Fun stuff, kitchen gadgets and some interesting books. Just a great variety store, a bit more expensive than a five and dime.

There used to be a nice little French restaurant where Lumiere is, but I can't find it. It must be gone. But, in my search I found Le Lapin and here's an article written at its opening. Sounds great. I'm going to try it out.
