Atlanta help
I'm trying to surprise my huband with a weekend in Atlanta in early August. He is a huge Braves fan and it all depends on when I can get tickets. My question, does anyone know of any special deals with a hotel room and Braves tickets (or zoo tix, we would do both, so it doesn't matter which one I pay for)? I know Turner Field and the zoo aren't in the best neighborhoods, but are there any decent hotels in close proximity? We will be driving, and could possibly take the Marta somewhere. Anyhoo, any help will be appreciated!

1) you don't need to stay close to the stadium with MARTA available, and traffic isn't THAT bad if you want to drive.
2) Buckhead is still the best area of town to stay in for a weekend getaway IMO
3) while I don't know about ticket/lodging packages, you can ALWAYS get tix at the stadium, but you have to be comfortable playing the scalping game.

Check out a couple of places. www.accessatlanta.com, www.sixflags.com (click on six flags over georgia) why six flags? They had some special running on their website which included hotel, six flags tickets (of course) and I believe Braves tickets. Also www.atlantabraves.com website usually has deals with downtown hotels and tickets posted somewhere. I would stay downtown or in Buckhead somewhere, the Marriott Marquis is nice and you can get a reasonable weekend rate but check any hotel you book downtown (ask the front desk before you reserve) if they are hosting a convention. You do not want to stay in any of the downtown hotels hosting a big convention (church groups, weddings, that stuff isn't too bad) they are way to crowded and you will not enjoy yourselves. Also try the Atlanta CVB at 1-800Atlanta. It is hot and sticky here in August, bring cool clothes!

Hey Dee,
I know it sounds convenient to stay near the stadium but as you know that's a rough neighborhood! There are quite a few nice hotels in downtown but I wouldn't stay around there because there is really nothing going on except conventions. Midtown and Buckhead will offer you more to do and yummy restaurants as well.
