Atlanta

I will be in Atlanta for a couple of days at end of October -- does anyone have any suggestions of things that I should definitely see or do? (Not shopping) Thanks

Oct. is a beautiful time of year in GA. Unfortunately, Atlanta is a great city to live in but not much if you're a tourist. The Coca-Cola museum is kitchy but fun, and CNN may be worthwhile. Stone Mountain Park is beautiful that time of year and, if you have the time, take a drive up to the North Georgia mountains. Places like Toccoa are beautiful

The High Museum of Art is interesting both for its architecture and exhibits- a major Picasso show is coming soon and may be here during your visit. The Carter Presidential Center is worth a visit as are Scietrec Museum and Fernbank Museum of Natural History. The Carlos Museum on the Emory University Campus is quite good as well. Zoo Atlanta is especially nice in good weather. The Atlanta Preservation Center offers walking tours of some historic and architectually significant areas. Also The Atlanta History Center and Swan House -while in that area check out some of Atlanta's finest homes in the Buckhead neighborhood. The King Center and MLK birthplace are worth a visit too. For dining try Bachanalia and Canoe are both lovely upscale places. Mary Mac's, Thelma's Kitchen, and Agnes and Muriel's offer a more down home experience. The Virginia Highland neighborhood has lots of trendy restaurants and bars. Obviously there's lots to do in Atlanta- it's a great place to live and visit!

We visited Atlanta about 3 weeks ago. Went thorugh fast, but we did visit the Coca-Cola museum and found it very entertaining. Would recommend it to you.

I agree with Steve. There are many things to do in Atlanta. If you have access to a car, your visit will be much more enjoyable. I don't think it is the best walking city, safety can be a concern. We have only been here 2 years and there are many things we have yet to do. Have fun!!

The Atlanta Botanical Gardens are another great thing to see. They are adjacent to Piedmont Park which is great if you just want to be outdoors.

If you want to try some of the better restaurants like Bacchanalia make reservations NOW! If you prefer a more spur of the moment decision, then try restaurants in the Virginia-Highland area. This one of the few "walking" areas of the city. There are lots of interesting shops and restaurants (Harvest is a fabulous restaurant - but be prepared for a wait during prime hours).

Have a nice visit.
