Have any of you seen the bikinis out there aimed at middle-aged women? They feature tummy control and padded bosoms, even some underwire. I think they're aimed at women who looked (notice the past tense) great in string bikinis, love the two piece look and don't want to give it up. Now that seems to me a great compromise. Ditch the string but save the bikini!

I love this thread because we were just discussing this subject at the beach this weekend!
I am mid-30's now, 5'6" (small boned) and go between 108-115, depending on how close I am from returning from vacation if I've eaten way too many things I normally wouldn't.
I am up every weekday morning at 4:10am to get to the gym by 4:30am. I'll work out with a warm up of elliptical for 30 minutes, then off to the machines for 30-40 minutes then the free weights for about 20 minutes. Also, I do the NYC Ballet Workout every other weekday (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) and maybe Saturday or Sunday if the mood strikes.
I was a ballet dancer for many years and always feared I would lose the body I developed and worked very hard on. No kids by choice for my husband and me, so hopefully I won't droop or sag prematurely.
Enough about me........ sorry.
I think a woman should wear whatever she wants and feels comfortable in. My sister in law is a bit thick through the middle and thighs, but she still looks fabulous (after 2 kids) in her bikini and even better when she's tan. She told me a long time ago that she thinks people would probably rather see her tan fat than her white fat!
I, on the other hand, love to wear a bikini because it reminds me of being a little girl on the beach from the pictures from my childhood. Goofy, but true.

Good for you Gucci! My best friend is 39 and has a better body than most 20 year olds and still wears a thong. She looks great wearing it also!
How do you like the NYC Ballet workout? I ordered it two weeks ago and I'm still waiting for it to arrive.

Go Travel - I just reread my post and it sounds like I was bragging. I really wasn't. Just happy to do what I do!
I have the NYC Ballet Workout that is about 3 years old. I love it. I am actually going to order a new pair of toe shoes and try to catch a local "adults" ballet class in my area the end of the week. I guess I need to relax before the dreaded "family reunion" (husband's side) this weekend.
I've also been hooked on those darn The Firm infomercials. I will probably break down and order it for something new. I am such a dork!

I don't think it's just about whether or not your still have the shape for a bikini, but rather, at what age a woman is to old to be wearing one (original question).
Yes many women have the shape, but wearing a bikini, or very low rise flared jeans and very tight tops etc, isn't very classy. It makes a woman look like a Banger Sister. Which is fine if that's the look you want. But I'd still rather not be mutton dressed as lamb, and will stick to a more mature look, without being frumpy. I'm very happy with my tankini. I'm not overweight, and it fits the bill, in my estimation.

>> "built like a brick sh*thouse"
Hehehe, I've never heard it expressed quite like that before
A lot of female competitive bodybuilders, powerlifters, and fitness competetors are very heavy for their size but don't look it. I'm about 16% bodyfat now (very off-season).

GoTravel it is eerie how many same opinions we have.
At any rate, I think that if a woman is happy and confident with the way she looks and wants to wear a bikini - wear it. Live life the way you want to, not to fit everyone else's idea of what you should be.

I may be in the minority here but i really dont think there are any age/weight limited on a skimpy suit.
Hip huggers and cropped halters are a different story- but on the beach i think wear what ever you want.

To answer the original question: A woman is 'too old' when she doesn't feel comfortable. Age is just a number.
I personally, will wear what i want, WHEN i want, as LONG as i want. That includes a bikini! Just another reason why i'm a runner; in fact, i'm headed out right now for my daily 3-5 miles.
